Gran’s Not Well!

For the past few weeks, gran has been telling us that she has no peace in her body - for me that’s a bloody courageous way to define her condition.

The doctor’s and nurses at the hospice told us to increase her oral morphine so that her pain goes away. This suggestion has worked but all she does is sleep, eat a bit, go to the toilet and sleep again unless we deep heartedly ask her to do something else like simply sit and talk for a while.

I Never Thought I’d Have Such a Feeling.

My gran got discharged from the Hospice this morning as they had found, what I can honestly describe as, the most appropriate and stable formula of medication and support for her.

I thought it would be a usual affair of waiting for the TTO’s (To Take Out medicationS) and then taking her home. I say “usual” as after looking after both my gran and grand dad over the years I have got used to the process of waiting for the medication at hospitals and then taking my gran or grand dad home with a sigh of relief.

Acceptance.

I wanted to approach St. Mary’s Hospice with my objective of raising funds for them and when I went to visit my gran yesterday for her daily doctor session, I managed to pluck up the courage to ask the receptionist about who looks after fund raising at the hospice. She gave me a couple of names and told me that she could ask one of the team to come down and have a chat with me.

That’s where my courage fell flat on it’s face and I made up some excuse about wanting to write a covering letter to introduce myself and with what I wanted to do before I actually met someone.

You may be wondering why I may need courage to talk about my idea. Well… let me explain:
